Can I Get a Breast Lift Without Breast Implants?

With age, or after pregnancy or significant weight loss, you may experience a reduction in breast volume and find that your breasts are not as perky as you would like them to be. Genetics, gravity, and the type of breast tissue you have also play a role in the skin laxity that can lead to breast sagging.

A breast lift can help you regain your confidence with a more youthful silhouette. In most instances, you can get a breast lift without needing breast implants, but this depends on your overall aesthetic goals. Reach out to Your Girlfriend the Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Danielle DeLuca-Pytell to schedule a consultation to learn more.

Do I Need Breast Implants With a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, tightens and eliminates loose, excess skin and tissue from the breasts and raises them to a more youthful position on the chest. A breast lift can be performed with or without implants. For women who already have fuller breasts, and only wish to address sagging, the lift on its own can accomplish this. However, for women who wish to address lost volume as well as sagging, a breast lift can be performed alongside a breast augmentation to achieve the desired result. The best way to determine which option is best for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. DeLuca-Pytell. During this visit, she will review your goals for surgery and examine your breasts and overall anatomy to help customize a surgical approach that best meets your needs and gives you the result you are hoping for.

How Long Does a Breast Lift Last?

Good candidates for a breast lift procedure will have achieved their desired weight. This is because any significant weight gain or weight loss after the surgery can cause your breasts to sag again. A breast lift can have long-lasting results, but it cannot change the loss of skin elasticity that happens over time. You will likely experience some sagging as you age, but your breasts will continue to be better positioned than if you had not had the breast lift.

Other factors that affect how long the procedure lasts include your genetics, diet, exercise, and overall health. Although the elasticity of your skin depends greatly on genetics, you can help support skin collagen and elastin production by taking several steps such as avoiding sun exposure and wearing sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to help prevent sun damage. You should also quit smoking or using nicotine products. Nicotine impairs the production of collagen throughout your body. Over time, this contributes to wrinkles, lines, and skin laxity.
