Brow Lift in Troy

Brow Lift in Troy

A brow lift in Troy is a facial surgery option for women or men with low brow position. The sag of the brow can cause or exacerbate hooding of the upper eyelids. As brows age, they can also change in shape with a more linear appearance compared to a more arched appearance common in youth. Some people may look “angry” due to their low brow position.

How the Brow Is “Lifted”

This procedure repositions the eyebrows through an incision above the hairline in men and women. For men with a raised hairline or without hair, the scar likely will be visible.

There are essentially two approaches to this surgery—an endoscopic approach or an open approach. With the endoscopic approach, several small incisions are made in the scalp and the soft tissue of the forehead is repositioned using a video camera and long instruments. A device called an Endotine is fixed to the skull to help resuspend the soft tissues of the forehead. In the open or coronal brow lift approach, a long incision is made behind the hairline. The brow is repositioned and excess skin is removed which holds the brow in its new position.

If excess upper eyelid skin is also a problem, an upper eyelid lift may also be performed at the same time.

Upside

A brow lift can change the shape and position of the eyebrow, making a face that may appear tired look rested again. It can also return the brows to a more youthful position.

Downside

For the endoscopic brow lift with Endotine placement, you will be limited on hair brushing and styling for the first three weeks after surgery. For an open brow lift, sensory changes of the scalp may occur which can sometimes be permanent. Temporary hair loss can occur.

Who Pays for This

This is a cosmetic procedure, paid for by the patient.

What to Expect from Brow Lift Surgery

Length of Operation

2 – 3 hours (depending on the extent of the procedure).

Anesthesia Used

General anesthesia, you will be asleep and monitored the entire time.

In or Outpatient

This is an outpatient surgery, you will go home the same day.

Time Until Final Appearance

3 to 4 months, depending on how swelling resolves.

Length of Results

Long-lasting, but varies from patient to patient.

Side Effects

Temporary swelling, bruising, and some pain. For the first 7-10 days after surgery, you should sleep with your head in an elevated position. Sensation of the skin of the scalp will be different initially. Bruising may occur at the lower eyelids, even if surgery was not done there.

Brow Lift Risks

All surgery carries risk. I recommend patients carefully weigh the benefits of having surgery against the potential risks which may arise. Risks include pain, bleeding, infection, damage to nearby structures, need for other procedures, recurrence of skin laxity, dissatisfaction with appearance, asymmetry, seroma, sensory changes including permanent loss of sensation, temporary or permanent changes in facial movement, wound healing delays requiring wound care, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolus. A complete list of risks will be discussed with you before surgery.
